Sansho Pepper is the handpicked and small bright to dark green seed pods of a Japanese prickly ash tree and it is native to Japan. The leaves are usually used as a herb, however, it is often referred to as ‘Japanese pepper.’ It comes from a plant called the prickly ash which is closely related to the plant that Szechuan pepper is harvested. Sansho has been used in Japan as herbal medicine to treat diarrhoea and other digestive functions during the Heian era (794-1185AD) and is still believed to benefit bodily functions by some people to this day.
Japanese Pepper - Zanthoxylum Piperitum (100%).
