The Atlantic cod is a popular marine fish species with three dorsal fins, two anal fins and a barbel on its chin. It is a benthopelagic fish found in the North Atlantic and Arctic Oceans, known for being a historically important food source whose stocks are now considered vulnerable due to overfishing. The cod has nearly no fat and is rich in protein, a healthy food that contains Omega-3 fatty acids and vitamins A & D. It can be prepared in a multitude of different ways such as fried or cooked in fillets, as well as whole, and it is also excellent smoked.
